University of Bergen

“I designed this chair for the competition which I won for the furnishing of the newly renovated auditorium in the Bergen University, originally built in 1894. The imposing window valves in the room were important as inspiration. The shapes are reflected in the square back and the circular seat”
Hallgeir Homstvedt

The University of Bergen (UiB) is an internationally recognized research university in Bergen, Norway. UiB is the most cited university in Norway with its academic diversity and high quality. The university has 14,800 students.

The original chair Lui, was designed by Hallgeir Homstvedt as a part of a project to refurnish the newly renovated auditorium, originally built in 1894. Hallgeir Homstvedt found the inspiration in the magnificent windows of the university. The chair has then been further developed together with Offecct and is today a part of Offecct’s collection. The chair is called “Bergen”, after the university itself.
